Few things are harder to stomach for an entrepreneur than sudden unexpected turns of events. This may pertain to a sudden unexpected bill that comes in the mail or the terse reminder of your friendly local taxing authority that you are behind in filing your quarterly business taxes. Since your home business is not only your bread and butter but also quite literally tied into the livelihood of your personal home, your ability to absorb risk and surprises is much decreased.

Thus you will need to take special care to ensure that your financial health is protected all the way around. Should your business suddenly experience a growth spurt, you need to be able to keep up; if a change looms large all of a sudden, perhaps due to a catastrophic turn in the economy, you need to be able to respond to it. By taking three simple steps, you will ensure that no matter what happens, you will know how to handle the unexpected and will not be taken by surprise when running a home business.

First and foremost, it is vital that you are insured. Not only does your home need to be insured, but your business may require certain liability insurance policies as well. Check on this matter with an experienced insurance agent and then find the coverage that most adequately protects you and your business. Then, should you fall ill, become injured or disabled, or just have to deal with a malfunction of your home of business equipment, your home business will not fall victim to the problems but instead will receive the funds necessary to maintain the status quo until you once again take the reigns firmly in hand.

Secondly, remember that in cases where you will host clients in your home, there is always the possibility of someone sustaining and injury. Thus, you will need to have adequate liability insurance that will protect you in case a customer slips and falls or is otherwise hurt. Liability insurance that protects you against claims arising from the use of any product you might be selling goes hand in hand with this kind of insurance policy and once again your insurance professional will be able to advise you on your needs.

Last but not least is the kind of protection that you yourself may not enjoy, but that will spell the difference between being taken care of and abject poverty for your family: life insurance! Protect your business and your family from going under by having your life insured so that your loved ones will be able to have their needs met should you die unexpectedly. This will also permit your family to take over the business should they desire to do so. By creating an operation manual you will leave them not only the funds needed to run the business but you will also enable them to continue running it and profiting from it just the way you did!

Ways For College Students to make money Online - Affiliate Marketing

One of the most important things to do before creating any information product is to determine the actual audience that you are trying to target. If you create a product around targeted keywords you will receive a better page ranking in the higher search engines and generate more hits, or potential sales. On the other hand you can create a product, and then try to find a market to sell it to. This is hard to make sales because it seems like you are trying to shove a product down the customers’ throat, and in a marketing world were one click back can lose a potential sale we definitely don’t want this.

It doesn’t matter what E-Book you want to create and sell, because as long as you know how to market it effectively and generate high quality traffic you can create sales no matter how crappy your product or website is. The only way to make money online is to get people to view your service or product and show them what you have to offer. You can have the best product in the world that’s a miracle cure for cancer, and have tons of great beneficial information.

One of the biggest challenges to learning these creative ways to make money online is avoiding all the scams out there. Just do a Google search for “affiliate marketing” and you will see several pages of these scams. I know all about the scams and running off with your money. I have been through countless of those programs where they guarantee you all this support, help and advice and once you sign up you never heard from them again or the site no longer exists.

When you create your market strategy, you will want to make sure you have a method of evaluating the strategies you use so you can make sure your advertising dollars are being used effectively.

The only way affiliate marketing works is over a period of time. Normally 1-2 months using tried and tested methods to build up your online campaign. Sure, you can look into other ways for college students to make money either by mowing lawns or getting the traditional job, but in today’s economy, these traditional methods don’t really stack up to the internet. This really hit me when I was at the bar having some drinks. I was getting paid while I was socializing in the bar with my friends. Should have some of their jaws drop when I told them how much I was making and how little I was working.

If you are going to start your own business and make money online, you will want to do everything you can to guarantee its success. If you create a business plan, you will put down in writing all of the steps you are going to take to get your business off the ground, as well as set goals for your business. By putting your plan in writing, you will have a path to follow and increase your chances for success.

Written by man on July 3rd, 2009 in Home Business.

When you’re doing business alone, you’ve got to decide what kind of business you’re going to be. As a small business proprietor, the two most popular options are going to be either a single ownership or a Limited Liability Company. In this day and age, many people will choose to become knowledgeable with regards to what it takes start LLC versus making themselves completely responsible for the business’s financial obligations.

When it relates to forming a business organization, a lot of business proprietors get a bit anxious believing that it is some long process which might take forever as well as cost them gobs of cash. Yet, in most cases, when your business has a Internet hookup in addition to a charge card, you can form an LLC in less than an hour and usually for not more than three-hundred dollars.

Your first step is to verify through the company’s local government headquarters regarding what paperwork you are going to want to fill out. Your company most likely will be forming in your region, as a result of going to the state site, you will be able to get all that you need.

From that point, the company is required to have to select the name of the enterprise. In addition, you’re also going to need to decide how you want its LLC formation to be designated in the last part of your enterprise’s name. Your company may usually use LLC or LLC. The Internet site can generally take you straight through the application and the process should literally cost you approximately twenty minutes to complete.

Online Marketing

All affiliate marketers are looking for any way to make conversions. There are tons of affiliate programs out there, but the challenge is finding one that will fit your website and that will convert. People spend countless money and time researching this mystery trying to find the right conversion for their working at home affiliate business. There are very simple tactics that most affiliate marketers over look everyday that can increase their sales big time. My advice is you need to do these 3 simple things first, then go try the more advanced software and gadgets. I willing to bet that you won’t need anything else but this simple advice.

What are these three tactics?

1. Offer free reports to your readers. If possible position them at the very top side of your page so they simply cannot be missed. Try to create auto-responder messages that will be mailed to those who input their personal information into your sign up box. According to research, a sale is closed usually on the seventh contact with a prospect.

Only two things can possibly happen with the web page alone: closed sale or the prospect leaving the page and never return again. By placing useful information into their inboxes at a certain specified period, you will remind them of the product and will find out that the sale is closed. Be sure that the content is directed toward specific reasons to buy the product. Do not make it sound like a sales pitch.

Focus on important points like how your product can make life and things easier and more enjoyable. Include compelling subject lines in the email. As much as possible, avoid using the word “free” because there are still older spam filters that dump those kind of content into the junk before anyone gets to reading them first. Convince those who signed up for your free reports that they will be missing something big if they don’t stay up to date with your products and services.

2. Get the kind of traffic that is targeted to your product. Just think, if the person who visited your website has no interest whatsoever in what you are offering, they will be among those who move on and never come back. Write articles for publication in e-zines and e-reports. This way you can locate publications that are focusing on your target customers and what you have written about might just grab their interest.

Try to write a minimum of 2 articles per week, with at least 300-600 words in length. By continuously writing and maintaining these articles you can generate as many as 100 targeted readers to your site in a day. Always remember that only 1 out of 100 people are likely to buy your product or get your services. If you can generate as much as 1,000 targeted hits for your website a day, that means you can make 10 sales based on the average statistic.

The tactics given above do not really sound very difficult to do if you think about it. It just requires a little time and an action plan on your part.

3. Using unique web pages to promote each separate product you are marketing. Do not lump all of it together just to save some money on web hosting. It is best to have a website focusing on each and every product and nothing more.

Always include product reviews on the website so visitors will have an initial understanding on what the product can do for those who buy it. Also include testimonials from users who have already tried the product. Be sure that these customers are more than willing to allow you to use their names and photos on the site of the specific product you are marketing.

You can also write articles highlighting the uses of the product and include them on the sites as an additional page. Make the pages attractive compelling and include calls to act on the information. Each headline should attract the readers to try and read more, even contact you. Highlight your special points. This will help your readers to learn what the page is about and they will want to find out more.

Try to use these tips for several affiliate marketing programs. You could end up maintaining a good source of income and surviving in this business which not all affiliate marketers can do. Besides, think of the huge paychecks you will be receiving, and you will have a work from home business that makes more than any regular job out there!

Working Green

Written by author on July 2nd, 2009 in Home Business.

These days everyone is talking about going green: green building, green recycling, and green commuting, green EVERYTHING! And with good reason; all reports indicate that global warming is on the increase; various animal species are on the decrease and near extinction. Much of this is due to the way we, and generations before us, have treated the planet.

As I read a recent copy of Backpacker magazine, the Global Warming issue, I thought about how truly “green” working and hiring virtually really is. I’ve always had it in the back of my mind, of course, but until I read more in-depth how we’re destroying our planet and what’s being done about it, I had a hard time relating the greenness of it all.

So what do we do to help the planet when we work and hire virtually?

• Assuming you own a vehicle with a whopping 30mpg and your daily commute is 30 miles each way and you worked at a bricks-and-mortar office (or forced your administrative assistant to drive to a bricks-and mortar office each day) 5 days a week, you (or your assistant) would emit 9,860 pounds of carbon each into the atmosphere per year! So if you hire a virtual assistant, as well as work virtually yourself, you would SAVE an amazing 19,720 pounds of carbon emissions per year. Source: Stanford University’s emissions calculator: http://transportation.stanford.edu/alt_transportation/calculator.shtml. Be sure to stop by the website and calculate your carbon emissions.
• While it’s hard to gauge exactly how much paper is used in a bricks-and-mortar office, what I can tell you is that our use of paper has gone down significantly since starting Team Double-ClickSM, a 100% virtual business. In the old days it was nothing to order as many as 10 cases (yes 50,000+ sheets of paper) in any given month. With a virtual business and by utilizing virtual assistants for 100% of the company’s work, we’re pushing a lot of paper if we use more than 2 reams (1,000) sheets a month. So again, working virtually wins: save on trees, save on carbon emissions caused by the processing and shipping of all those trees, which make all that paper.
• If we’re using less paper; we’re using fewer ink toners and cartridges
• What about the carbon footprint we leave when we eat all of that fast food when we eat out while working at a bricks-and-mortar office? One article http://openthefuture.com/cheeseburger_CF.html suggests that each of us, by eating three fast-food hamburgers per week, contributes to the emission of 1,188 to 2,013 pounds of carbon per year (this includes the energy used in the cooking of the burger as well as the commute to the burger joint). When you’re working virtually, you usually greatly reduce the number of times per week you eat out, thus reducing your carbon footprint once again. And you tend to use reusable containers instead of all those throw-aways.
• Most of us who work virtually also utilize virtual fax and phone systems, which again reduce our carbon footprint through reduced electrical carbon costs as well as reduced paper usage.
• If you have kids and you work in a bricks-and-mortar office (or if your assistant is forced to work in a bricks-and-mortar office) you’re contributing to greater emissions with all of those trips to pick up and drop off the kids at daycare.
• While I couldn’t find any figures on the carbon footprint left from dry cleaning, we can safely assume it’s considerable. Working virtually significantly reduces the need for carbon-costly dry cleaning.
• Think about the “green” space we save by reducing the number of office buildings being put up.
• We hear about green building (the use of reclaimed or recycled building materials) often, but what about totally eliminating the need for that new building. This act alone reduces the carbon footprint in materials-savings.
• Let’s talk about the carbon-cost of powering a huge office space. Working virtually, you only have to power the room that you are working in
• Working virtually, you have the ability to choose green desks, packaging and materials
• And the most fun “green” feature of working virtually is the envy of all of your bricks-and-mortar friends, family, and associates!

As you can see, working and hiring virtually makes a significant impact on the reduction of ozone-depleting greenhouse gasses and reduces your carbon footprint. Team Double-Click and its staff (both internal and outsourced) have worked virtually since 2000 and are proud to contribute to a better planet for our children. If you’re interested in hiring or working virtually and helping the planet, be sure to visit us at www.teamdoubleclick.com.

Cafeteria Benefits And Your Workforce

Written by author on July 2nd, 2009 in Home Business.

Especially if you happen to be one of those unflinchingly ambitious micro-business entrepreneurs, I’ve been reading about everyday in pubs like Crain’s Chicago Business, you’ll eventually find that designing and offering up an attractive employee-benefits package will be an essential component of your future growth. An attractive health plan will do just that – attract – helping you recruit and retain crucial employees (meaning those fought over creative class/knowledge worker types Richard Florida is always yammering about). You’ll also find that a generous group plan will help link your employees’ interests to your concern’s.

That said, there are a seemingly unlimited number of group benefits options to consider. One that you’ll want to move to the top of your list is a Cafeteria Plan. The cafeteria brand of benefit plan can add a lot freedom to a employee compensation package, allowing your workforce to choose benefits options ala carte, if you will – selecting only the benefit options they’re most interested in.

Perhaps I should start closer to the beginning … cafeteria plans, also known as the flexible spending account, the choice spending account or the section 125 plan, have become increasingly popular over the last few years because they’re designed to offer employees a truly convenient way to pay medical expenses with pre-tax dollars; relieving them of the burden of federal, and state taxes.

To take advantage of a flexible spending account, eligible employees set aside a pre-designated amount each year, in order to pay for medical expenses aren’t already eligible for coverage. The two most common types of flexible-spending accounts are dependent care reimbursement (also known as DCRAs) and health care reimbursement accounts. Employees pay for non-reimbursed expenses from these accounts. Unfortunately, flexible-spending accounts are “use-it-or-lose-it” accounts; meaning that any funds leftover at the end of the year can’t be “rolled over,” so to speak.

Exceptions To Those Limits Apply to Key Employees

Typically, funds set aside in a cafeteria plan’s flexible-spending account are exempt from income, payroll, and unemployment taxes. This exemption generally also applies to payroll and unemployment taxes paid on behalf of employees. (Take a look at IRS Pub. 15-B for exceptions, including treatment of highly compensated employees and certain shareholders of Subchapter S Corporation’s.)

Premiums paid to a group life benefits policy are typically exempt from income and unemployment taxes. In addition, premiums paid for up to $50,000.00 of benefits coverage per employee tend to be exempt from payroll taxes. For additional details, see IRS Publication 15-B.

You see, cafeteria plans offer you some versatility in putting together a benefits plan for your workforce. There are other categories of fringe benefits that you can offer your employees in a cafeteria plan that may be excluded from taxable income under IRS benefit-exclusion rules. Using a flexible-spending account — namely, establishing a DCRA and HCRA — may help to jump-start a cafeteria plan for your workforce. If you maintain a cafeteria plan, the IRS requires you to complete IRS Form 5500.

To help you keep track of employment-related costs, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) publishes a quarterly statistic called the employment cost index. The cost index measures changes in employee-compensation costs, which include salaries, wages, and benefits. In addition to publishing the quarterly cost index, BLS publishes an annual survey of compensation costs.

One last thing … the information above is practically for entertainment purposes and shouldn’t be interpreted as financial advice. For advice specific to your firm’s circumstances, don’t hesitate get advice from a financial, tax or benefits consultant. You may even want to flat out hire an Interim benefits consultant or a full service benefits consulting firm. There are also a number of good sources of information on the Web you can take advantage of. The Employee Benefits Research Institute (EBRI), International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP), and American Benefits Council are independent sources of truly “actionable” employee-benefit plan information.

If you’ve done any investigation at all of Internet marketing, you’ll know scams abound, no matter where you look. Unfortunately, unscrupulous marketers feed on the multitudes of innocent people who are looking for the means to improve their lives by making money on the Web. It’s a shame, because millions of people probably spend money and lose a lot of time, only to get involved with scams or at least bad business ideas that line the marketers’ pockets and leave the buyers with nothing. Fortunately, methods abound for making money on the Web without having to invest a dime. This will probably come as a revelation to those who have had run-ins with Web scheme run by scam artists!

But sometimes one person’s scam is another person’s good opportunity. An example of this is the controversy over an web business opportunity named Site Build It. Some people think that one or more people have created a SBI review that was misleading. The owner stepped forward to defend himself and he could be totally right. But it would be up to any potential buyer to do his or her own research.

One of the most successful ways I’ve found to make money online is totally above-board and is also pretty easy. I make money writing with HubPages. HubPages — a community blogging site –  makes it quite easy to write content that generates ad revenue. The number of HubPages “hubs” you create is up to you. Each hub has the potential to make up to five forms of revenue: Google AdSense, Kontera in-text ads, Amazon products, eBay auction items and any affiliate program you want to implement. Sixty percent of the impressions (page views) that generate revenue go to you and the people who own HubPages get 40 percent. Affiliate programs are an exception to that rule though; you get 100 percent of any income generated by someone clicking on an affiliate link. Creating money-making hubs takes a bit of practice but in my opinion, the money you can earn over time makes it worth the effort.

There are many affiliate programs out there but I like to use RevResponse on my hubs, because it provides great free information for people. When people click on links to any of the RevResponse publications or White Papers and qualify, you make money. That’s all there is to it. The qualifying part is the catch though, so that aspect is important to understand. To learn more about the RevResponse rules, read this RevResponse review. It will help you determine whether signing up is worth the time it would take to sign up.
